Chia-Fu Chou简介:
    Chia-Fu Chou
received his B.S. degree from National Tsing Hua University (Hsinchu, Taiwan) and Ph.D. degree from State University of New York at Buffalo, in 1986 and 1996, respectively, both in physics. From 1997-2000, he was a postdoctoral research fellow at Princeton University, in physics and molecular biology. Since Spring 2006, he has been a Research Fellow/Professor at Institute of Physics, an adjunct Research Fellow at the Genomics Research Center and Center for Applied Sciences, Academia Sinica, Taiwan, and Adjunct Professor of Harrington Department of Bioengineering, Arizona State University. He has been working on the development of BioMEMS/NEMS for biosensing and molecular/cellular biophysics. His primary focus is on applying micro- and nanofabrication techniques and its system level integration for applications in biology, photonics, and soft matter.

报告摘要:
In the last decade, micro/nanofluidic devices have presented unique opportunities to study molecular and cellular biophysics in confined environments. Particularly, fluidic interfaces between micro- to nanoscale chambers and the extreme confinement effects provided by nanofluidic channels have offered exceptional platforms to study single-molecule behavior and new physics in these experimentally tailored fluidic environments. In this presentation, we will review some recent works on using these devices for micro/nanoscale molecular and cellular trapping, single-molecule biosensing, DNA stretching and entropic recoiling, and the studies on the in vivo and in vitro dynamics of the bacterial MinD cytoskeleton. We will also present new opportunities in the studies on RecA-DNA interactions, direct mapping of transcriptional factors, single-molecule sequencing, and fluid mechanics on the nanoscale.
