Ⅰ.Brief Introductionof Discipline
This discipline founded as Physics Department of Soochow University in 1914. Physics Department of Jiangsu Teachers Van College established Physical Education discipline in 1952; Nuclear Physics Master and Optics Master were set up in 1979 and 1981;in 1982 , the school changed its name to Soochow University, after then, school established the two undergraduate disciplines, physical education and physics. In 1986 and 1990, there is the establishment of Theoretical Physics Master and Condensed Matter Physics Master. Condensed Matter Physics Ph.D was established in 1996; in 2006, the school established disciplines of physics Master and in the same year established Optics doctoral degrees; there was physics post-doctoral study in 2007; in 2010, there was physics doctoral level ; it associated with Optical Engineering, these two become "micro-nano optics", which was awarded "Jiangsu advantages of discipline ." Today, the discipline relies on the School of Physical Science and Technology, School of Energy, soft condensed matter physics and Interdisciplinary Research centre, as well as Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Thin Film, National Experimental Teaching Center of Physics and so on to carry out construction work. The main research directions are: theoretical physics, condensed matter physics, computational physics , radio physics, particle physics and nuclear physics , functional film materials, electromagnetic and optical metamaterials, plasma physics and its applications , quantum optics and quantum information , optical measurement techniques and nonlinear photonics, laser physics and atmosphere optics, soft condensed matter physics and its applications , new energy materials and devices. There are 33 professors and 20 associate professors, of which two double employed academicians, 2 lecture professors, one young and middle national expert with outstanding contributions , one Jiangsu "high -level innovate and pioneer introduction plan " financing, one Jiangsu Distinguished professor, and one provincial experts with outstanding contributions, 14 University Distinguished Professors. Most of them have overseas study or work background. The laboratory building is nearly thirty thousand square meters. We have rich network database resources, and have a large material preparation equipment, materials testing equipment and numerical simulation software, which worth more than 12,000,000 yuan. (2) Remedial courses. Any doctoral student who lacks a master's degree or undergraduate level in his or her department should complete the relevant core courses (generally no less than 2) under the guidance of the instructor. The credits earned are recorded as non-degree credits.
(3) Optional courses. PhD students may choose courses outside the requirements of their subject according to their personal interests, subject to the consent of the tutor. The credits earned are non-degree credits.
Ⅴ.Training session
1. Literature review and opening report
Reading is an important part of training postgraduate and also indispensable part of the process for choosing dissertation topics. Graduates must widely read Chinese and foreign literature, foreign literatures based. Graduate must read more than 100 foreign literatures. (1) Before writing a dissertation, doctoral students must, under the guidance of their tutors, and after careful investigation and research and review a large amount of literature, in order to understand the history and current situation of the research direction of the subject, and to determine the dissertation research on this basis. The opening report of the doctoral student is completed in principle at the end of the first semester, and at least two years after the opening report is approved, the application can be answered. (2) The topic selection of the dissertation should be selected according to the training plan and the training plan requirements, combined with the subject development and the tutor's scientific research tasks, and select topics from the frontier topics of the discipline, national or local key scientific research tasks. 2. Interim Assessment
(1) The mid-term assessment of doctoral students should be conducted in the second semester (October) after enrollment. For special reasons, approval by the tutor and department may be extended to the fifth semester. PhD students who participate in the assessment should fill out the "Summer University Mid-term Examination Form". A 3-5-person assessment team consisting of associate professors and above is established. There are no less than 2 professors. The team leader is a doctoral supervisor.
(2) The assessment team members mainly summarize the postgraduate self-assessment (mainly refers to the self-evaluation of political and ideological performance, curriculum learning, scientific research ability and physical condition since the entrance of graduate students), course study (study scores and credits), and comprehensive examination of subjects. 3. Academic activities
During the period of study, doctoral students should select at least 30 lectures on subject progress, sign and recognize the written records and written experience, and submit the written materials signed by the instructor to the graduate secretary of the training unit at the end of the semester before the thesis defense. for future reference.
VII. Thesis Proposal
(1) The doctoral thesis requires that the selected topics should be in line with national, provincial and ministerial-level projects and development research projects that have a major impact on the national economy, and have important implications for academic development, economic construction, and social progress. The overall paper needs to show that the author has mastered a solid and broad basic theory, systematic and in-depth physics expertise and experimental skills in the fields of physics and materials, and has the ability to independently engage in innovative scientific research or independently undertake specialized technical development work.
(2) The doctoral thesis is the research result independently completed by the degree applicant himself under the guidance of the tutor or tutor group. It is an academic paper with complete system, reasonable structure and sufficient scientific research workload. The doctoral thesis should reflect the cutting-edge and novelty of the subject areas such as physics, and make creative achievements in physics or other disciplines or specialties. The content of the doctoral thesis should be reliable, hierarchical, and fluent.
(3) Doctoral dissertations should abide by academic ethics, conform to academic norms, and must not copy and plagiarize others' results.
(4) The format of the doctoral thesis is specifically in accordance with the relevant regulations of the graduate school.
Ⅷ. Graduation and degree application
PhD students apply for graduation and degree application. 1. The dissertation qualification review
(1) Conditions for applying for thesis defense
Complete the training program specified in the training plan, pass the doctoral course and other courses, and the comprehensive examination of doctoral students, and pass the required credits; obtain the scientific research results prescribed by the faculty during the doctoral degree; complete the doctoral thesis, and Pass the pre-answer.
(2) Application and qualification review of dissertation defense
1) Applicants should submit their dissertation and defense application two months before the reply.
2) The tutor should review the dissertation within half a month, make a detailed academic evaluation of the thesis, and make a comprehensive evaluation of the applicant's political thought performance, basic theory and professional knowledge, foreign language level, scientific research ability and style of study. , whether the paper meets the academic level of the applied degree and whether it agrees with the review.
3) The teaching and research section shall conduct a preliminary examination of the applicant's political and ideological performance, course learning, scientific research results and academic level of the dissertation, and the responsible person of the teaching and research section shall sign the opinion of whether or not to agree to the defense.
4) The Academic Degree Evaluation Committee shall review the applicant's political and ideological performance, course study, scientific research results and academic level of the dissertation according to the training plan and scientific research requirements. 5) The application for the doctoral thesis defense approved by the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee of the Ministry of Education shall also be submitted to the Office of the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee for approval.
6) Applicants who have one of the following circumstances may not agree to their dissertation defense application:
In the political thought and moral quality, he made serious mistakes and insisted on not changing; he did not complete the training program specified in the training plan, completed the prescribed courses, and obtained the required credits; the course examination and thesis writing had fraudulent phenomenon; The pre-answer was unqualified and the review was not approved after the revision.
7) When applying for a dissertation defense, individual Ph.D. students, if the scientific research results have not met the requirements stipulated by the Ministry of Education, but their dissertations have reached the academic level of the applied degree, and other conditions of defense have also been met, after the application, the tutor recommended, The evaluation section of the teaching and research section and the academic degree evaluation committee may agree to the application for the dissertation defense.
(3) Pre-defendment of doctoral thesis
1) Two months before the official reply of the doctoral thesis, the pre-defendment of the dissertation must be carried out. Those who have not participated in the pre-answer may not participate in the doctoral thesis defense. The pre-answering team should review the dissertation and the opening report in advance and the expert's opening arguments.
2) The Pre-defendment of the doctoral thesis is organized by the Faculty (the Academy). The pre-answering group consists of the tutor of the degree applicant, the members of the steering group, and the experts of the discipline and related disciplines, 3 or 5, including the thesis expert in the dissertation. .
3) The Pre-defendment of the doctoral thesis is presided over by the person in charge of the Pre-defendment team. In addition to introducing the content of the dissertation, degree applicants should also focus on the innovation and key conclusions of the dissertation. The instructor should provide a comprehensive introduction to the applicant's dissertation research. The pre-answering team should ask questions about the dissertation in conjunction with the opening report, and ask the applicant to reply, so as to evaluate the workload, innovation, basis of argument, and academic level of the dissertation. The pre-answers are divided into three types: qualified, basic and unqualified.
4) If the dissertation Pre-defendment "unqualified", the dissertation must be revised. After the examiner has passed the examination, the dissertation can be applied for the dissertation defense. The application must be accompanied by a written explanation of the revision of the dissertation. Those who are "qualified" or "substantially qualified" in the pre-answer shall also further improve the dissertation according to the amendments proposed by the pre-answering group.
2. Review of the dissertation
The doctoral thesis should be reviewed by more than 5 (including 5) and external experts with positive professional titles in the relevant disciplines of the thesis.
All doctoral dissertations are subject to blind review and are submitted for review by the Office of the Academic Degrees Evaluation Committee. The specific requirements for the blind review of the dissertation are implemented in accordance with the Interim Implementation Measures for the Blind Examination of Masters and Doctoral Dissertations of Suzhou University.
The confidential dissertation is not subject to blind trial, and its review is carried out in accordance with the relevant requirements of the “Study on the Management of Graduate Students in Suzhou University”.
3. The defense of the dissertation
(1) Composition of the thesis defense committee
The doctoral dissertation defense committee consists of 5 or 7 experts with profound academic titles. Among them, doctoral tutors or off-campus experts should be the majority, and the original degree paper reviewers should be a minority. The applicant's tutor may not be employed as a member of the dissertation defense committee. The chairman of the defence committee is an off-campus expert with a senior professional title or a doctoral tutor.
The Dissertation Defence Committee has a secretary, and employs teachers with deputy senior or above (including deputy senior) titles or doctoral or higher (including doctoral degrees).
(2) The work of the dissertation defense committee
The dissertation defense committee is responsible for organizing the dissertation defense. The defense should be asked about the dissertation itself, and the degree applicant should reply. Questions related to the dissertation can also be questioned to check the mastery of the applicant's basic theory and professional knowledge; to be responsible for reviewing the dissertation, based on the academic level and defense of the dissertation, and to submit academic comments in accordance with the requirements of the dissertation, Evaluate the dissertation and make a resolution.
The dissertation defense committee must adhere to standards, seek truth from facts, be serious, fair and reasonable, and promote academic democracy, and hold public defenses (except for confidential dissertations).
When a dissertation defense committee forms a resolution, it must adopt a secret ballot method, which is approved by more than two-thirds (including two-thirds) of all members. After the resolution is signed by all members of the defense committee, it shall be submitted to the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee; the defense committee shall vote on whether to grant the degree through the thesis defense and suggestion; while the defense of the thesis is passed, the defense committee shall present the academic according to the academic level and the defense of the paper.
