Ⅰ.Brief Introductionof Discipline
This discipline founded as Physics Department of Soochow University in 1914. Physics Department of Jiangsu Teachers Van College established Physical Education discipline in 1952; Nuclear Physics Master and Optics Master were set up in 1979 and 1981;in 1982 , the school changed its name to Soochow University, after then, school established the two undergraduate disciplines, physical education and physics. In 1986 and 1990, there is the establishment of Theoretical Physics Master and Condensed Matter Physics Master. Condensed Matter Physics Ph.D was established in 1996; in 2006, the school established disciplines of physics Master and in the same year established Optics doctoral degrees; there was physics post-doctoral study in 2007; in 2010, there was physics doctoral level ; it associated with Optical Engineering, these two become "micro-nano optics", which was awarded "Jiangsu advantages of discipline ." Today, the discipline relies on the School of Physical Science and Technology, School of Energy, soft condensed matter physics and Interdisciplinary Research centre, as well as Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Thin Film, National Experimental Teaching Center of Physics and so on to carry out construction work. The main research directions are: theoretical physics, condensed matter physics, computational physics , radio physics, particle physics and nuclear physics , functional film materials, electromagnetic and optical metamaterials, plasma physics and its applications , quantum optics and quantum information , optical measurement techniques and nonlinear photonics, laser physics and atmosphere optics, soft condensed matter physics and its applications , new energy materials and devices. There are 33 professors and 20 associate professors, of which two double employed academicians, 2 lecture professors, one young and middle national expert with outstanding contributions , one Jiangsu "high -level innovate and pioneer introduction plan " financing, one Jiangsu Distinguished professor, and one provincial experts with outstanding contributions, 14 University Distinguished Professors. Most of them have overseas study or work background. The laboratory building is nearly thirty thousand square meters. We have rich network database resources, and have a large material preparation equipment, materials testing equipment and numerical simulation software, which worth more than 12,000,000 yuan. Graduate students with Ph.D are to continue studies overseas, work in the domestic research institutions, domestic and foreign enterprises and government office.

Ⅵ. Catalogs of the Main Books and Periodicals for Document Reading
Reading is an important part of training postgraduate and also indispensable part of the process for choosing dissertation topics. Graduates must widely read Chinese and foreign literature, foreign literatures based. Graduate must read more than 70 foreign literatures. Required to read Science, Nature and its sub-Journal, APS American Institute of Physics full-text electronic journals, APS, IOP, Elsevier Science Direct, Springerlink, Wiley InterScience and so on. VII.Thesis Proposal
(1)Before writing the degree thesis, the graduate student must understand the history and present situation oftheir own main research direction under the guidance of the tutor,andthrough research and accesstoa lot of literature. On the basis of the above, one can decide the topic of his research,and prepare the thesis proposal. The thesis proposal of the master students should be done at the end of the second term and at least one year after the thesis proposal through the audit can be replied. The master students participating in the thesis proposalshould fill out the "Master's degree thesis proposal of Soochow University ".
(2)The topic of the thesis should be selected from thekey research projects and it should choose from the national or local important tasks according to thetraining planandtrainingrequirements, and it should be combined with thedevelopment of subjects and the mentor’sresearch tasks. The thesis should have higher academic value and positive impact on the scientific development. Master should link theory with practice, and improve the abilityof researching.
(3) The thesis proposal mainly includes project name,basis of the selected topic (research purpose and meaning,present situation of domestic and foreign research, mainreference), research program (researching purpose,researching contents, key problems to besolved,methods to the research,technical routes, the experimentalscheme and analysis of the feasibility),characteristics and innovation,work contentsand the expected results,the budget,the existing basis of research.
(4) The thesis proposal should go through the comments given by the panel. The panel mainly pay attention to the master’scapability of reviewing data,academic opinion,researchplanandwritten expressionability.
(5) Ifthe content of the paperis changed, one should write down the researching contentsbefore and after the adjustment. And it must be checked bythe panel.
Ⅷ. Interim Assessment
(1) Master's interim assessment should be carried out after the third semester enrollment. Graduate students participated in the assessment should fill out the "Soochow University Graduate interim evaluation form." The 3-5 person assessment team established by the professors and associate professors, at least one professor.
(2) The assessment team members mainly summarize for the self-assessment of students (mainly political and ideological manifestations since graduate school, course of study, research ability and physical condition of self-evaluation) , course learning (academic and credits) , Dissertation Progress and so on. According to the assessment, the assessment team give a comprehensive evaluation, the main problems and suggestions for improvement. Meanwhile, the College Party branch leaders and mentors should give a assessment for the political and ideological manifestations, learning and research capacity of the graduate students. Finally, the College Degree Evaluation Sub-Committee gives opinions and assessment of examination results. Assessment results will be associate with subsidies for the cost of living of the graduates.
Ⅸ. Dissertation Requirements
Dissertation is an important part of postgraduate training. Under the guidance of tutors, the postgraduates select research topic. Topics should be associate with national, provincial fund projects, national research project, 863,973 high-tech projects, and research projects with the significant impact on the national economy development, national and provincial research projects of Key Laboratory. Master
(1) Research papers and review papers of the graduate should be the part of the paper work, the first unit of the authors should be signed Soochow University .
(2) If the graduate want to apply for a master's degree, he or she must have published at least one paper( the first author, as far as can be formal Notification of acceptance ) in the public journals ( excluding supplement , increasing Edition ); Or there is at least one academic paper ( first author ) published in the Proceedings of the International Conference ; or he or she has at least one Thesis Authorization patents ( ranked first or mentor is the first author of the first graduate).

Ⅹ. Graduated and Degree Application
Graduates should apply for Graduation and Degree. Specific implementation of the relevant provisions are carried out by the Graduate School.
Graduate students apply for graduation and degree application. Specifically in accordance with the "People's Republic of China Degree Regulations", "Provisional Implementation Measures for the Degree Regulations of the People's Republic of China" and "Working Rules for the Granting of Master's and Doctoral Degrees in Suzhou University" (Sue University [2012] No. 20), "School of Postgraduate Application for Suzhou University" Regulations on the results of doctoral research (Sue University [2017] No. 10) and other relevant regulations.
1. The dissertation qualification review
(1) Conditions for applying for thesis defense
Complete the training program specified in the training plan, pass the master's degree course and other courses, pass the test, pass the required credits; obtain the scientific research results prescribed by the faculty during the master's degree; complete the master's thesis.
(2) Application and qualification review of dissertation defense
1) Applicants should submit their dissertation and defense application two months before the reply.
2) The tutor should review the dissertation within half a month, make a detailed academic evaluation of the thesis, and make a comprehensive evaluation of the applicant's political thought performance, basic theory and professional knowledge, foreign language level, scientific research ability and style of study. , whether the paper meets the academic level of the applied degree and whether it agrees with the review.
3) The teaching and research section shall conduct a preliminary examination of the applicant's political and ideological performance, course learning, scientific research results and academic level of the dissertation, and the responsible person of the teaching and research section shall sign the opinion of whether or not to agree to the defense.
4) The Academic Degree Evaluation Committee shall review the applicant's political and ideological performance, course study, scientific research results and academic level of the dissertation according to the training plan and scientific research requirements. The chairman of the Academic Degree Evaluation Subcommittee shall sign whether to approve the review. opinion.
5) Applicants who have one of the following circumstances may not agree to their dissertation defense application:
In the political thought and moral quality, he made serious mistakes and insisted on not changing; he did not complete the training program specified in the training plan, completed the prescribed courses, and obtained the required credits; the course examination and thesis writing had fraudulent phenomenon; The pre-answer was unqualified and the review was not approved after the revision.
6) When applying for a dissertation defense, individual graduate students, if the scientific research results have not met the requirements stipulated by the Ministry of Education, but their dissertations have reached the academic level of the applied degree, and other conditions of defense have also been met, after the application, the tutor recommended, The evaluation section of the teaching and research section and the academic degree evaluation committee may agree to the application for the dissertation defense.
2. Review of the dissertation
The master's thesis that was selected to participate in the blind examination was determined by the faculty. The unsuccessful master's thesis was nominated by the teaching and research section and the tutor, and was approved by the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee.
The master's thesis is blindly examined by a combination of random extraction and key extraction. The dissertations that have not been drawn are reviewed in a conventional manner. The master's thesis is submitted to the department for review. The specific requirements for the blind review of the dissertation are implemented in accordance with the Interim Implementation Measures for the Blind Examination of Masters and Doctoral Dissertations of Suzhou University.
The dissertation review opinions are processed in accordance with the "Physical and Optoelectronics and Energy Department's Implementation Plan for the Master's Thesis Blind Examination", and the master's thesis that has not been selected for blind review is also implemented with reference to this program.
The confidential dissertation is not subject to blind trial, and its review is carried out in accordance with the relevant requirements of the “Study on the Management of Graduate Students in Suzhou University”.
3. The defense of the dissertation
(1) Composition of the thesis defense committee
The postgraduate thesis defense committee consists of 3 or 5 experts with a deep academic deputy (including deputy senior) titles, including at least 2 postgraduate tutors, and at least 1 extracurricular or extracurricular experts. Experts with senior professional titles should be the majority, and the number of reviewers who originally hired dissertations should be a minority. The applicant's tutor may not be employed as a member of the dissertation defense committee. The chairman of the defence committee is an expert with the qualifications of a senior professional title and a master's tutor.
The Dissertation Defence Committee has a secretary and employs teachers with intermediate or above (including intermediate) titles or master's degrees (including master's degree).
(2) The work of the dissertation defense committee
The dissertation defense committee is responsible for organizing the dissertation defense. The defense should be asked about the dissertation itself, and the degree applicant should reply. Questions related to the dissertation can also be asked to check the mastery of the applicant's basic theory and professional knowledge; to be responsible for reviewing the dissertation, based on the academic level and defense of the dissertation, and to put forward academic comments based on the basic requirements of the dissertation To evaluate a dissertation and make a resolution.
The dissertation defense committee must adhere to standards, seek truth from facts, be serious, fair and reasonable, and promote academic democracy, and hold public defenses (except for confidential dissertations).
When a dissertation defense committee forms a resolution, it must adopt a secret ballot method, which is approved by more than two-thirds (including two-thirds) of all members. After the resolution is signed by all members of the defense committee, it shall be submitted to the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee; the defense committee shall vote whether to grant the degree through the thesis defense and suggestion; while the defense of the thesis is passed, the defense committee shall present the academic according to the academic level and the defense of the paper. Comments, evaluation of the paper grade, sub-excellence, good, and third-class; if the thesis defense fails, the defense committee should recommend whether it is recommended at the specified time (master's degree is one year, but not exceeding the length of study prescribed by our school, the same below) After revising the paper, re-respond to a vote.
(3) Dissertation defense procedure
1) The Chairman announces the list of members of the Defence Committee and the agenda for the reply;
2) The instructor briefly introduces the basic situation of the applicant for the degree;
3) The main content of the degree applicant's dissertation report;
4) The members of the defense committee raise questions and the applicants of the degree reply;
5) Adjournment. The defence committee meets separately.
The secretary of the defense committee reads out the dissertation review opinion; the defense committee reviews the academic level and defense of the dissertation; the defense committee decides whether to grant a degree through the thesis defense and suggestion, or whether it is recommended to revise the paper after the revised time within the specified time. Vote; discuss and form a resolution.
6) Resumption. The chairman of the reply committee read out the resolution and announced the result of the vote.
The defense fee is paid by the tutor from the research funding.
